My Parents Were a Neurodiverse Couple & Next Couples Support Group Starts 4/25
Today would have been my mother's 80th birthday! My parents were married for over 40 years and never knew they were a neurodiverse couple. While I know that they loved each other a lot, they struggled with communication differences, emotional reciprocity, sensory differences and very different social quotas. I sometimes think about how their lives would have been different if my father had known he was autistic.
My parents both left this earth way too early (my dad was 64 and my mom was 66) and they each taught me SO much that has made me a better person, partner, mother, friend and social worker. I have chosen to heal my childhood wounds, understand the dynamics of my family of origin and work on healing generational trauma. None of this is easy, in fact it has been an emotional rollercoaster filled will some really great, exciting highs and some really scary lows. However, no matter what happens on this journey, I feel more comfortable in my own skin and I have finally created peace and balance in my life...at almost 60 years old!
As many of you know, I created Neurodiverse Love as part of my healing journey. In addition, it is my mission to bring information and resources to people throughout the world to increase understanding of the differences in neurodiverse relationships. Everything I do and share has the opportunity to help reduce the "unintentional' hurt and pain that SO many couples have experienced because of "unknown" neurodiversity.
If you and your partner are interested in gaining a better understanding of your differences and meet other neurodiverse couples who are experiencing similar challenges, you may want to join me for the next Neurodiverse Love couples support group. We will meet on Zoom from 7:30pm-9pm EST on April 25th, May 2nd, May 9th, and May 16th.
The cost is $199 per couple and each couple will receive a digital version of the Neurodiverse Love Conversation Cards, and the Neurodiverse Love GPS Guidebook. If you and your partner are interested in joining the next support group, please send me an email and I will send you an invoice to pay through PayPal.
The group is limited to 8 couples, so if you are interested in joining the group please email me soon.
Thanks for being a part of the Neurodiverse Love community and for seeking understanding of how neurological differences are impacting your life and relationships.
Mona Kay, MSW, Ph.D.
